Peoria County Receives $125,000 to Combat Social Determinants of Health

A Federal program has awarded Peoria County $125,000 in grant funds to combat social factors which affect long-term health. Social determinants of health, such as poverty, unequal access to health care, lack of education, stigma, and racism, contribute to health inequities.

The money is part of an initiative made possible by the fiscal year 2022 appropriations based on 17th District Congressional Representative Cheri Bustos' (D-IL) Social Determinants of Health Accelerator Act. The grant will assist local governments in tackling food shortages, insecure and unsafe housing, and other environmental issues.
